Naming a child with a beautiful and honourable name is very important. The Prophet (SAW) always chose names with good and beautiful meanings, even telling people to change their names if they had unpleasant meanings.
The names followed by an asterisk* have an Arabic meaning and may be in current use but, they are not normally used by the Arabs because they are either descriptive words, or surnames or are used in the wrong context regarding naming a child. They have been included for information purposes only.
The boys names of Allah 'Al Asma ul Husna' are preceded by the word Abdul that is translated below as servant, but the meaning of Abdul in this context is the fusion of extreme love for Allah and total submission to Him.
